Apart from a few incidents, polling went off peacefully in 120 municipalities and nine municipal corporations. Voter’s turnout was 70.26 per cent. The polling started at 7 am and ended at 5 pm. A total of 50,000 employees were deployed for fair and peaceful elections. As per the stats Congress did not file in 400 wards and BJP did not file in 700 wards.
The first in its kind of country, the Election Commission used the facial recognition app, 10 polling stations were selected for the pilot project. Karimnagar municipal corporation will go polls on 25 January and the results on 27 January.
TRS has already won 77 of 80 councillors declared victory unanimously and it also won 3 corporations. The highest turnout was seen in Pochampally municipality and the lowest was in Nizampet municipal corporation 40 per cent. The total number of voters in urban local bodies is 49,74,589 which includes 24,89698 male, 24,84,587, female, 313 others. The voting percentage was recorded 70.26, male voter turnout was 68.8, female turnout was 69.94.
The re-polling will be held at 3 polling stations, from 7 am to 5 pm on 24 January. The re-poll will be held in polling station no 87 of ward 32, polling station no 198 of ward no 41 and polling station no 101 of ward no 41.
Elections to 120 municipalities and 9 municipal corporations were held on 22 January and the results will be declared on 25 January.
