- Gollapudi Maruthi Rao dies at 80 in Chennai
Veteran actor, writer and screenwriter Gollapudi Maruthi Rao passed away at the age of 80 on Thursday at a private hospital in Chennai. He was undergoing treatment at Lifeline Hospital.
Gollapudi Maruthi Rao was born in 1939 in Vizianagaram in Madras Presidency, in present-day Andhra Pradesh. He attended Andhra University in Visakhapatnam.
Gollapudi Maruti Rao is known for writing the scripts for some of the famous films, which includes Doctor Chakravarthy, Tharangini, Samsaram Chadharangam
He went on to act in over 250 films and also wrote several books, novels and plays. The actor had earlier also worked as a host and station in-charge for All India Radio.
Soon after the news broke out, condolences started pouring in for the veteran actor.
CM Sri KCR has expressed shock over the demise of noted writer, actor and columnist Sri Gollapudi Maruthi Rao. Recalled and hailed the services rendered by Sri Maruthi Rao to the Telugu cinema and Telugu literature. Conveyed condolences to the bereaved family members.
Mahesh Babu took to Twitter to offer his condolences to Gollapudi Maruthi Rao’s family. He wrote, “Deeply saddened by the sudden demise of #GollapudiMaruthiRao garu. His contribution to the TFI remains unparalleled. We have lost a gem. Heartfelt condolences to the family and dear ones. Rest in peace Sir”
Actor Nani expressed his grief. He wrote, “Gollapudi Maruthi Rao gaaru, one of my most favourites. The way he spoke and the way he acted always felt so familiar and family like. You will always be remembered Sir.”
